In order to delve deeper into their Space inquiry, Mrs. Mail and Mr.
Lee's Kindergarten class visited the Ontario Science Centre. We participated in
a special program inside the Planetarium where we went into outer space to
visit different planets and the moon. We learned about constellations and took on the role of astronauts landing on the moon. The students enjoyed sharing and growing their vast
knowledge about Space!

Young Scientists at Work!
Mr. Gardner's Gr. 2/3 class explored simple machines and structures, including testing strong, sturdy bases and testing the role that cables play in the stability of bridges.

Carnaval Kick-Off Assembly
On Tuesday, February 21st, Gr. 4/5 and our intermediate students came together to launch our annual winter celebration - L'Esprit Du Carnaval, for all students in Gr. 4-8. The launch and presentation
were a huge success. Many thanks to Mme. Fumo and the French Team for providing this authentic opportunity to celebrate our second official language.

Gr. 6 Infographics
Grade 6 students studied infographics and then created their own to inform the public about endangered species, a topic they cover in the Science strand - Understanding Life Systems: Biodiversity. This unit is one example of the seamless integration of subjects - in this case, science, media and art!
Primary Wellness Wednesday!
On Wednesday, February 8th, Our primary students (Gr. 1 - 3) had a morning to relax and enjoy a session of their choosing.

Gr. 3 Science
Gr. 3 students, along with Mr. Crooks, explored the science unit on Force and Movement.
This unit has
students investigating the various forces (push, pull, friction, buoyancy etc.)
that cause an object to start moving.
The students constructed
balloon race cars made out of recyclable materials, powered by balloon force.
They then had Speed races with each car.
Students also planted bean seeds and then watched them germinate and grow.
See the growth in this student's bean after 3 months!
Scientist in the School - Gr. 5
The Gr. 5's
participated in Scientist in School yesterday and today. Ms. Law's class had a
lot of fun and learned a great deal of science in the various engaging activities. Students discovered where energy comes from, its different forms and how it can be
transferred or transformed.
Students also identified energy stored in household
objects and discovered that the human body is a good conductor of electricity.
Using the Energy Stick, they formed a human chain of electricity! They held hands and used their bodies to complete the circuit that activated the Energy
Stick (it lit up and buzzed).
Gr. 5's also explored how energy may be conserved energy and the environment protected by simply using energy efficient light bulbs, adding insulation to buildings, and using green energy (solar, hydro, wind).
